The final qualifier staged at Celtic Lakes Resort for the Wales Carp Masters took place over the weekend of 3rd - 5th August 2007. The winning pair took the honours with an impressive 468lb.
The final qualifier at Celtic Lakes Resort for the Wales Carp Masters final saw one of the venues biggest catfish caught to date. This impressive fish fell to the Captive Angler team of Mark Cresswell & Simon Joyce
The recent Wales Carp Masters qualifying match held at Celtic Lakes Resort was a great success. Prior to the matches being held on the newly established angling complex, it had been an unknown quantity, but in the four matches that have taken place so far, the venue has displayed a seemingly endless ability to produce such impressive form.
With the weather being far less than ideal for fishing - with torrential rain and cold northerly winds - the competitors could have easily been forgiven for thinking that catch rates might suffer, however, that was far from the way it went over the weekend.
More astounding news from Celtic Lakes. The match held over the weekend of 18th - 20th May has produced some incredible weights.
Complex owner, John Carney, phoned WCM to say: “What a weekend! We are all totally knackered, was that some serious fishing or what!”
In first place were Philip Mathews and Terry Hughes with an incredible 511lb 14oz, but story of the weekend was that they had to stage a late fight back, from over 80lb behind, to upstage Simon O’Brian and Mike Netherway who were in front for much of the match. Simon and Mike concluded with a total of 473lb as their catch rate fell away dramatically overnight on the run in.
Imagine the delight at the WCC HQ when news reached them of a new record being set on the match held 4th-6th of May at Celtic Lakes!!
The staggering news that the total weight of 1418lbs of carp had been banked by the competitors taking part in the 40 hour match was remarkable enough, but to hear that it had established a new benchmark was incredible.
John Carney, owner of the fantastic Celtic Lakes Resort was obviously delighted, and congratulations go to John for all the hard work and considerable investment of time and money that he has put into the complex to make it the amazing venue it is.
